Introduction to Welonide
Welonide is a broad-spectrum antiprotozoal and antiviral medication containing Nitazoxanide 500 mg, primarily used for the treatment of intestinal parasitic infections caused by protozoa such as Giardia and Entamoeba histolytica. It is also effective in treating certain viral infections, including rotavirus, particularly in children. Welonide targets the metabolic processes of the infecting organism, leading to its inactivation and elimination from the body. It offers rapid relief from the symptoms of infections, including diarrhea and abdominal cramping, promoting faster recovery.
Uses of Welonide
Welonide is indicated for:
Giardiasis (Giardia lamblia Infection)
Amoebiasis (Entamoeba histolytica Infection)
Cryptosporidiosis
Rotavirus Infections in children

Mechanism of Action of Welonide
Nitazoxanide works by interfering with the anaerobic energy metabolism of protozoa and certain viruses. It inhibits the enzyme pyruvate ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR), which is essential for the energy production of the parasite. Without this enzyme, the parasite cannot generate energy, leading to its death. In the case of viral infections, Nitazoxanide disrupts the viral replication cycle, helping to reduce the severity and duration of symptoms.
